Black Leopards appoint Ghanaian coach ahead of new season
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Black Leopards have appointed Ghanaian Maxwell Konadu as their new head coach.
Konadu takes over from Solly Luvhengo and Papi Zothwane, who were co-coaches last season at the Limpopo-based side.
Zothwane has since joined the newly-promoted DStv Premiership club Magesi FC. Luvhengo on the other hand looks set to continue as part of the technical team as an assistant.
Konadu was in charge of Ghanaian top-flight Nsoatreman FC. He won the Ghana FA Cup title and finished fourth in the Premier League with the club. The 51-year-old, who joins Leopards on a three-year deal, holds CAF A coaching qualification. He started his coaching career with the Wa All Stars in 2009.
WHO IS THE NEW BLACK LEOPARDS COACH MAXWELL KONADU?
He was also head coach at Asante Kotoko during the 2011/12 season. Konadu was the assistant coach for the Ghana Under-23 team in 2013. In addition, he was an assistant coach for the Ghanaian national team and also had a stint at Legon Cities.
MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE CONFIDENT THEIR NEW MENTOR WILL SUCCEED
“We can indeed confirm that we have reached an agreement with Maxwell Konadu,” club chairman Chief Thidiela said.
“It’s always difficult for people coming here to adjust. But with the support that he is going to get from the assistant coaches and other locals, I think he will be able to do it.
“The only nice thing is that with football, it’s round. Fortunately, the world is also round, so it’s the same everywhere. I don’t think it will be difficult for him to adapt,” said Thidiela.
“There are just a few things that might be difficult but can be easily dealt with. We are confident that he will be able to do well.”
Meanwhile, Leopards have also re-signed their former defender Khomotso Masia. Masia left Leopards to join Maritzburg United in 2022. But the 29-year-old left after a short stint to join Pretoria University before also moving to Venda FC.
