Chippa United tie down Sirgio Kammies with new contract
DStv Premiership side Chippa United have tied down one of their key defenders, Sirgio Kammies, with a new contract ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The Chilli Boys are making major changes to the squad as they look to improve on their disappointing 12th-place finish last season.
In a bid to take a new direction, Chippa fired the technical director, Morgan Mammila. The latter has since taken over as the head coach of Baroka FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Mammila replaced Dan Malesela as the coach of Baroka after the former TS Galaxy mentor was placed on suspension.
Meanwhile, the Gqeberha-based side also released 16 players a few weeks ago to make space for new signings for the upcoming season.
They released Luvuyo Memela, Roscoe Petersen, Loydt Kazapua, Azola Ntsabo, Siyabonga Nhlapo, Siphelele Luthuli, Darren Johnson, Menzi Ndwandwe, Andile Fakude, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Diego Apollis, Khanyisile Mayo, Siseko Manona, Yurig Conwood, and Andile Mbenyane.
Chippa also announced that on-loan players Goodman Mosele and Gadinkame Modise will return to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, respectively.
SIRGIO KAMMIES HAS SIGNED A NEW TWO-YEAR CONTRACT WITH CHIPPA UNITED
Chippa United have moved swiftly to offer Kammies a new two-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The 26-year-old has been one of the consistent performers at Chippa and other teams had already started sniffing around for his signature. Kammies’ existing contract was due to expire at the end of June 2024 before extending his stay with the club.
The right-back featured in 26 appearances in all competitions for Chippa and contributed one assist last season. Kammies is a wing-back with a great defensive abilities and explosive pace to go up and down the flank.
