CT City compete the signing of Angolan star Carlinhos
Ambitious DStv Premiership side Cape Town City FC have continued bolstering their squad after completing the signing of Angolan star Carlinhos.
CT City have been one of the most active clubs in the current transfer window. Carlinhos is the club’s fifth signing ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 PSL season.
In the past weeks, the Citizens have bolstered their squad by bringing in Namibian star Prins Tjiueza, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Haashim Domingo, rising star Kayden Francis and experienced midfielder Fortune Makaringe.
There have also been some exits at the club, which saw the Capetonians part ways with Brice Ambina, Thabiso Kutumela, Jo Paciencia, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Bongani Mpandle, and Khanya Leshabela.
The 29-year-old midfielder from Angola joins the Cape Town outfit as a free agent. His contract with Angola giants Petro Luanda expired on 30 June. In the SA elite league, Carlinhos will link up with former teammate and compatriot Gilberto, who was snapped by Soweto giants Orlando Pirates following great performances for club and country.
“Cape Town City is pleased to announce that it has agreed to professional terms with Angolan playmaker Carlos do Carmo,” reads the club’s statement.

Carlinhos is a well-travelled midfielder and will bring a lot of experience to the CT City team. He started playing professional football for Petro Luanda in 2013. In 2019. Previously, he played for another Angola top-flight side, GD Interclube. He then left his country in 2021 to look for a new challenge elsewhere and joined Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans. However, in 2021, he returned to Petro Luanda.
In his professional football career, the talented midfielder has won five trophies: two Angola League titles, one Angolan Cup title, and two Angola Super Cup titles. He has also played in the CAF Champions League in Petro colours and the African Football League [AFL].
In addition, he has represented his national team. However, his last appearance was in November 2021 against Gabon in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
