Why Msendami snubbed Simba and TP Mazembe for Gallants

As the transfer market gets lively, the reason why Zimbabwean hotshot Daniel Msendami snubbed Simba SC and TP Mazembe for Marumo Gallants has been revealed.

Msendami emerged as one of the most sought-after players, having played a glittering role in Jwaneng Galaxy’s domestic double win. Galaxy won the Botswana Premier League title and the Orange FA Cup, with the 23-year-old being named the Player of the Tournament.

As such, DR Congo giants TP Mazembe and Simba SC were among the clubs targeting him as his Galaxy contract expired.

PSL sides SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC were also angling to acquire his services. Surprisingly, he chose Marumo Gallants, a decision that shocked many, considering the club’s profile.

Last season, Gallants were battling for honours in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. They failed to win the championship in SA’s second-tier league as they finished the 2023/24 season in 11th place.

Late last month, they secured the Moroka Swallows franchise, taking over one of the iconic names of South African football, whose future is now unclear.

Gallants will now take Swallows’ place in the SA elite league after they came close to being relegated for a second successive season.

Moreso, Msendami confirmed to FARPost that he is joining Gallants on their return to the DStv Premiership. Though he could not reveal details of his contract, the star is itching for his starting berth in the PSL.

Msendami had an outstanding 2023/24 season, featuring in 28 matches with 12 goals and 16 assists. He was instrumental in Galaxy’s successful title defence.

“Yes, there were several offers including one from AmaZulu but he preferred Marumo Gallants for decent reasons,” a source close to Msendami told FARPost.

“He wanted a team where he would be sure of game time. At Galaxy, he was a first-team player, so he wanted to keep rising and not be a bench warmer.

“To be honest, he is ready for the PSL, but at his age, what is important is the game time. That is why Msendami snubbed Simba SC and TP Mazembe. He wants it as much as he wants to earn.”

The Warriors winger is considered a strong contender for the Botswana Premier League Player of the Season award.
