Andile Jali set to join Chippa United after six-month hiatus

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star midfielder Andile Jali is set to make a comeback to professional football after agreeing to terms with Chippa United.

Jali has been a free agent since leaving Moroka Swallows in January of this year, and there was speculation that he might be considering retirement. However, the Eastern Cape-based club has captured the veteran midfielder’s signature.

According to media reports, the Eastern Cape outfit is expected to unveil the 34-year-old veteran this week.

A native of Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, Jali’s move to Chippa United marks a homecoming of sorts. With several senior players having left the Chilli Boyz, Jali’s wealth of experience – including over five league titles with two different teams – is expected to be invaluable in guiding the club’s young talent.

BESIDES ANDILE JALI, WHO ELSE HAS CHIPPA UNITED SIGNED?

Pretoria Callies winger Xolani Sithole and defender Samkelo Jali have also been signed by the Chilli Boys. The duo arrived at the club last week ahead of the start of pre-season.

Sithole and Jali are part of Chippa United’s preseason training in Gqeberha. The 22-year-old Sithole is reuniting with Chippa’s co-coach, Kwanele Kopo, with whom he previously worked.

Last season, Sithole faced allegations of falsifying his birthdate but was cleared by SAFA’s arbitrator in November 2023 after confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs. The 22-year-old is now eager to put the controversy behind him and focus on his football career.

The promising winger contributed four goals to AmaRoma’s campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season. He will be hoping to take the DStv Premiership by storm.

This move comes after the club released 16 players, including notable figures like Luvuyo Memela, Loydt Kazapua, Siphelele Luthuli, and Siyabonga Nhlapo.
