Golden Arrows release three players ahead of new season

Golden Arrows have let go of Olufemi Kayode, Siyavuya Ndlovu and Thubelihle Magubane ahead of the start of the new season.

Abafana Bes’thende returned for pre-season last week after a four-month break following the conclusion of the 2023/24 PSL campaign.

As previously reported, the club has only made one signing so far. They brought on board Keenan Phillips who’s expected to give them a huge boost in the right-back position.

In addition, the team has also been training with an unnamed trialist. It remains to be seen whether they will offer him a contract.

Kayode, Ndlovu and Magubane have become the first exits for the club as the club appears to have begun with their player movements.

The Nigerian goalkeeper, Kayode joined Abafana Bes’thende at the beginning of the last season with the club hoping he would solidify its goalkeeping department.

The goalkeeping woes have at times persisted, especially when Ismail Watenga, who spent last season with them on loan from Sundowns, was injured.

The departure of Kayode could perhaps signal the possible return of Watenga who had returned to his parent club following the end of last season. The 31-year-old, Kayode played one DStv Premiership game and two Carling Knockout Cups, conceding five goals in the process.

Meanwhile, the defender, Ndlovu signed for the club from Real Kings in 2020.

He was getting decent game time in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns. However, things began to go south for him last season when he made only four appearances in all competitions.

Overall, Ndlovu amassed over 50 appearances for the club, scoring one goal and registering one assist.

The third departure, Magubane has been with the Dubarn-based club since 2021/22 season after signing from TS Sporting.

The left-winger struggled to establish him himself at the club, featuring in 19 matches only during his stay.
