Richards Bay to announce new sponsor, update on home venue

Richards Bay FC boss Menziwa ‘Jomo’ Biyela has spoken about the rumours of a new sponsor for the club and provided an update on their home venue for the upcoming season.

During the PSL promotional/relegation Playoffs, rumours circulated about the Natal Rich Boyz selling their club status. However, having retained their top-flight spot, the club appears to be entering the 2024/25 season with stability.

They have finilised a few player acquisitions that will be officially announced soon.

The club’s chairman revealed during the interview on Prime Time Sports with Victor Molefe on UKhozi FM that they are set to unveil a new sponsor next week, who will be partnering with the club for a duration of three years.

NEW SPONSOR TO PARTNER WITH RICHARDS BAY FOR THREE YEARS

“I think if there’s no disturbances, as I had mentioned when we last spoke to you, I think by the end of next week we would have announced a new sponsor,” Biyela told UKhozi FM [as translated from IsiZulu].

“I feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I can assure you that we have a sponsor that we are planning to announce very soon. I won’t reveal who they are for now.

“But I think they will be with us for three years.”

Meanwhile, since their promotion to the DStv Premiership, Richards Bay have not been able to play home games in their home town due to renovations at uMhlathuze Sports Complex. Instead, all home games have been played at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.

When asked about the possibility of returning to Richards Bay, Biyela mentioned that, at the moment, he anticipates that they would remain in Durban.

‘I SEE MYSELF RETURNING TO UMLAZI’

“I don’t want to mislead people,” he added.

“Maybe the uMhlathuze [Municipality] themselves are the ones who can give you a response to that.

“But for me, as it stands, I see myself returning to Umlazi this [upcoming] season.”
