U-turn explained: Ramoreboli reveals reasons behind snubbing Sekhukhune United

Jwaneng Galaxy coach Morena Ramoreboli has clarified his decision to snub DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United and extend his contract with the Botswana champions.

Sekhukhune looked to have secured the signature of Ramoreboli, only for the coach to make a surprising last-minute U-turn.

In the past weeks, Ramoreboli was heavily linked to Sekhukhune United, who were in the market for a coach after the departure of Lehlohonolo Seema. The club has since appointed German mentor Peter Hyballa as their new head coach.

A few days back, Botswana side Galaxy cleared the air about their mentor, confirming that Ramoreboli has extended his stay at the club. At this time in point, details of the new contract are still unknown.

The Free State-born coach has been bossing the Botswana Premier League since joining the club in 2021. In the three seasons he has coached in the neighbouring country, the 2023 Bafana Bafana COSAFA Cup coach has won three titles: two league titles and the Orange FA Cup. He also became the first coach to take the club to the CAF Champions League group stages in their history.

Why the Change of Heart? Ramoreboli Speaks on Sekhukhune United Decision

The SA elite league is bigger and more competitive than the Botswana league. However, the 43-year-old says he chose to stay in Botswana because of the Jwaneng Galaxy project and the vision that they want to achieve.

“For me Jwaneng Galaxy will always come first, they gave me an opportunity,” Ramoreboli told FARPost. “As a football person, one doesn’t want to stay in one place, especially after tasting success; I had to stay.

“My contract was expiring and there were too many offers from bigger leagues for me, including the PSL. But it was not yet time to leave Galaxy.

“There is a lot that I can still achieve here; it may take two seasons, it may take three seasons. I chose to stay because of the club’s project and vision that they have set. The management has always got my back in whatever I need for the team.”
