Simba SC poised to beat PSL clubs for highly rated left-back

Tanzania’s Simba SC are pretty poised to beat four PSL clubs for the services of the highly-rated Gadiel Kamagi, who spent last season at Cape Town Spurs.

There has been an interesting tussle for left-back Gadiel Kamagi, with several clubs aiming to secure his services.

Kamagi, who is valued at approximately R2.7 million, was exceptional during his loan spell at CT Spurs. During this time, he captured the interest of several clubs, including Tanzania’s Simba SC, where he played in 2019.

Locally, Sekhukhune United, Cape Town Spurs, Richards Bay FC and Chippa United are reportedly angling for his services. He has one year left on his contract with Tanzania’s Singida Big Stars. And whoever wants him has to dig deep into their coffers.

And as the bidding war reaches its boiling point, FARPost understands that Simba SC are now better placed to win Kamagi.

Simba SC will be under the guidance of former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Fadlu Davids next season. He left Raja Casablanca to replace Abdelhak Benchikha, who left the outfit in April 2024.

Davids joined Simba SC last night [Friday], along with former Pirates performance analyst Darian Wilken, who will be his assistant coach.

Wayne Sandilands will be in the technical team set up as the goalkeepers’ coach, with former Mamelodi Sundowns strength and conditioning coach Riedoh Berdien joining as the fitness coach. Another South African, Mueez Kajee, will be the performance analyst.

Singida Big Stars president Japhet Makau said they are finalising what could be Kamagi’s next home. Kamagi, who has 20 Tanzania national team caps, was a marvel to watch for CT Spurs as they fought relegation last season.

He scored two crucial goals and provided three assists. But it is his abilities in both defence and attack that were more eye-catching and impressive. In particular, how he delivers curling delightful and curling crosses made him a cut above the rest.

Moreso, his statistics and versatility undoubtedly make him valuable for any team hoping to instil energy into their left-full-back position.

The 27-year-old’s potential is undeniable. He can march into any team and compete for a first-team place.

Cape Town Spurs were not successful in retain their DStv Premiership status. But Kamagi was able to reveal offensive and defensive capabilities.
