Luc Eymael on the move again

Former PSL coach Luc Eymael is on the move again after parting ways with DR Congo club Aigles du Congo.

The Belgian coach had a successful stint at the club since joining in January 2024.

The former Polokwane City FC and Black Leopards coach finished fourth during the playoffs and missed out on qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. The 64-year-old has been hailed for transforming a team only formed last year, into a competitive side.

Surprisingly, Eymael has left the club and has told this publication why he opted to leave.

WHY LUC EYMAEL HAS LEFT DRC SIDE AIGLES DU CONGO

“It was never a question of money. But it was a question of renewing the contracts of four important players. I also asked for the reinforcement of some players,” he told FARPost.

“But also especially people who surround the chairman. I told him that he was surrounded by the wrong people and he promised to sort it out and to come back to me four days after that. Unfortunately, he never came back to me after that.

“But I was already feeling that my demands were too high or I could be disturbing him or things like that. But I knew that there was someone surrounding him that was not good.”

FARPost has also established that the secretary of Eymael’s former club, Olivier Pengongo, was issued with a six-month suspension by the league. He was found guilty of forging the signature of the club owner.

WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE FORMER PSL COACH AFTER HIS DEPARTURE FROM THE DRC?

Despite his continuous interest in coming back to coach in South Africa, Eymael has confirmed that there have not been any offers.

“I have had contacts from North Africa, East Africa, Europe and one contact in the Gulf. Unfortunately, not in South Africa. DR Congo included.”
