Marumo Gallants sets high targets for Dylan Kerr

Marumo Gallants president Abram Sello has set high targets for head coach Dylan Kerr ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership.

Kerr is taking over the coaching role at Gallants after the club successfully purchased the Premiership status of Moroka Swallows, who were struggling financially.

The Limpopo-based side was participating in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season after being relegated from the SA elite league in 2022.

Gallants spent only one season in the National First Division [NFD], finishing 11th on the league table. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa failed to gain automatic promotion to the Premiership and opted for buying the status.

Interestingly, Gallants are buying a status for the second time after purchasing Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC [TTM] in 2021.

Before being relegated, Gallants had an impressive run in the CAF Confederation Cup, making it to the semi-finals.

The impressive form saw the 2022 Nedbank Cup finalists lose key players such as Ranga Chivaviro, Lebogang Mabotja, Washington Arubi, Katlego Otladisa, Lesiba Nku, Mahlatse Makudubela, and Ismaël Touré.

WHAT ARE DYLAN KERR’S TARGETS AHEAD OF THE NEW SEASON?

With Gallants aiming to stamp their authority in the DStv Premiership, Abram Sello says his coach, Dylan Kerr, will have to win at least one domestic trophy and finish within the top eight on the log.

“I worked with him [Dylan Kerr] on three occasions when I bought TTM, where we were number 16 on the log, and he made miracles. He also got us one sliver medal in the Nedbank Cup and he made that a tattoo, I demand that, that’s the first target.” Sello jokingly said.

“Now there’s an additional Cup, the Carling Knockout Cup, he has to get one of the Cups. We also have to be in the top eight.

“When the club performs well, we want to see you in that particular bracket, so he knows his targets very well. And he knows his game, we believe in him, we believe in ourselves, and we believe in his eye in terms of good players and building players.

“I’ll give you an example with Ranga Chivaviro; he was the most talked about player at the end of last season. Of course, other coaches contributed as well, so we expect so much, and he needs to deliver more.”
