CAF confirms Bafana’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers fixtures and dates
CAF have confirmed the fixtures and dates for Bafana Bafana’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers, with the 1996 African champions hungry to recapture their past success and etch their name in the trophy once more.
Bafana were drawn in Group K along with Uganda, Congo and South Sudan. While the group looks tricky on paper, it appears Bafana have a better profile than their opponents.
Bafana walked away with the bronze medal at the latest Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON], which was played in Côte d’Ivoire.
Hugo Broos‘ men were impressive throughout the tournament, sealing their bronze medal after beating DR Congo 6-5 on penalties in the tournament’s third-place play-off.
They will be hoping to pick up where they left off in the continental showpiece. In Group K, they are the natural favourites to be at the top when the qualifiers end.
BAFANA’S AFCON QUALIFIER FIXTURES
The qualifiers are set to start in September with the matchday one and two slated from 2-10 September. In this one, Broos’ men will first host The Cranes of Uganda before an away date to South Sudan.
Matchday three and four will follow in October, with matches earmarked to be played from the 7th to 15th of the month. First, Broos and his men face Congo at home followed by the reverse fixture in Brazzaville.
They will wrap up the qualifiers in November. Matchday five and six fixtures set to be played between 11 and 19 November. Then, they will travel to face The Cranes of Uganda before sealing the deal with a home assignment against South Sudan.
The hopes are high that they will keep their momentum, as they also retain hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
In their latest match, they outsmarted the Warriors of Zimbabwe, a win that kept them within touching distance of qualifying. In addition, they will be hoping to maintain the winning momentum as the 2025 AFCON qualifiers start.
