Ghana coach shares his thoughts on Richard Ofori
Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been backed to bounce back from his current situation as he remains a free agent.
Ofori was amongst the players released by the back-to-bac Nedbank Cup champions upon the completion of the season.
The 30-year-old Ghana international has been posting some videos of himself training with the assistance of a personal trainer. There has not been any indication in terms of his next move.
Ofori faced criticism in recent times for his performances at both Orlando Pirates and the national team.
But newly appointed Black Leopards coach Maxwell Konadu, who worked with Ofori at the Black Stars, says it’s only a matter of time before the Keeper finds his feet.
WHY RICHARD OFORI IS BEING BACKED TO OVERCOME HIS CURRENT SITUATION
“Definitely, I know that. He is a tough boy; he works so hard, and I think he will soon get back on track and keep going,” Konadu told FARPost.
“Mentally, he is a tough guy and I have no doubt in my mind that he will bounce back. Definitely, he will bounce back. I don’t know his situation with Pirates now, but I definitely know that if he stays injury-free, Ofori will always bounce back because he is a tough boy.
“Ofori has been successful here, but in the last season, he started having some injuries that delayed his progress. But I think he will bounce back,” he said.
ARE GHANA PLAYERS STRUGGLING TO BREAK INTO THE SA FOOTBALL MARKET?
With fewer players from Ghana plying their trade in the PSL, the 51-year-old coach admits the standard locally has risen compared to other African countries.
“The South African league is competitive, and we respect it a lot in Ghana. We have been watching it on DStv; the standard is high. Every player would want to play here. I don’t know why some of them come, and they don’t make it.”
