Nyiko Mobbie’s switch to SuperSport in advanced stages

Football agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that Nyiko Mobbie’s permanent switch from Mamelodi Sundowns to SuperSport United is in the advanced stages.

Mobbie has struggled to break into the Sundowns team since joining the club from the now-defunct Free State Stars in 2018.

The Bafana Bafana right-back faced tough competition at the star-studded side Sundowns, which saw him go out on a handful of loan moves in order to get game time.

After signing with Masandawana, Mobbie was sent out on loan to Stellenbosch FC. He went to another to Chippa United in the following season after the loan deal expired at Stellenbosch.

Meanwhile, in the past three seasons, Mobbie was with Sekhukhune United on loan since their promotion to the DStv Premiership in 2020.

In the 2023/24 campaign, the 29-year-old defender featured in 35 matches across all competitions for Babina Noko.

His great form at Sekhukhune earned him a regular place in the Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad. Mobbie was part of the Bafana squad that won the bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

NYIKO MOBBIE’S MOVE TO SUPERSPORT UNITED CLOSE TO CONCLUSION

With the experienced wing-back on his way out of Sundowns, his agent Mike Makaab says the deal to join Matsatsantsa is close to conclusion.

Mobbie will complete a permanent move to the Tshwane rivals ahead of the upcoming season. The ex-Free State Stars defender has a contract with Downs until 2026.

“The deal for Nyiko Mobbie to move to SuperSport United from Mamelodi Sundowns is not done yet, but I can tell you it is very close, of course, on a permanent move, not a loan,” Makaab told FARPost.

Mobbie will replace Kegan Johannes, who is expected to leave SuperSport in the current transfer window.

Johannes shared the responsibilities at the right-back position with Gamphani Lungu, who has been converted from the right-wing position.

The former SA’s junior international played in 21 matches in all competitions at SuperSport under the guidance of Gavin Hunt.
