Richards Bay FC new partner casts doubt on Vusi Vilakazi’s future

The statements from the new partner of Richards Bay FC have cast uncertainty on the future of the club’s head coach, Vusumuzi Vilakazi.

The Natal Rich Boyz secured a significant boost with a R100 million sponsorship deal from Phakwe Gas.

Phakwe Gas CEO, Thabiso Tenyane, indicated during a talk with the media that they intend to be a highly hands-on sponsor.

He hinted at a forthcoming coaching surprise before the 2024/25 PSL season begins, despite Vilakazi’s recent contract extension as a head coach. The former Golden Arrows coach, Vusumuzi Vilakazi, was not at the launch due to coaching badge classes.

He revealed there would be a restructuring within the coaching staff.

THABISO TENYANE SAYS THEY HAVE ANOTHER ‘COACH’ SURPRISE SOON

“The other surprise that is coming, it will be the coach,” said Tenyane.

“No, we’re not speculating, but it will be the coach. The next time you come back here, it will be the coach. Before the season starts, it will be the coach.”

Asked further if there will be changes in the technical team, he responded, “Of course.”

When pressed about Vilakazi’s future, he offered a vague response: “We will see, but we are not an inactive sponsor; we are an active sponsor because our brand needs to be associated with winners

“So, therefore I need to make sure that I assist them to be winners.”

Tenyane elaborated on Phakwe Gas’ commitment to building the club’s infrastructure. He mentioned the stadium in Richards Bay was incomplete and expressed the possibility of investing in it.

TENYANE SAYS THEIR INTENTION IS TO BUILD PROPER FACILITIES

“The facilities need to be analysed; the stadium is not complete; maybe we may have to invest in that for a short while,” he added. “The intention is to build them proper facilities with the stadium.

“This team will never be the same again, I can tell you. I can tell you Richards Bay is going to beat the Gauteng teams this year.

“We’re going to make sure that they have what it takes.”
