Ricardo Goss set for SuperSport United return

In a move to secure consistent playing time and maintain his spot in the national team, Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ricardo Goss is set to rejoin SuperSport United after starting pre-season with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper spent the past two seasons on loan at SuperSport and is eager to continue his impressive form and contribute to club and country.

At the end of the loan stint, he returned to his parent club, reporting for pre-season last week. However, FARPost can confirm he was not part of the friendly match Downs played against Sekhukhune United on Thursday.

Sundowns and SuperSport are in the final stages of the deal. The transfer is part of a larger deal that involves SuperSport United utility defender Kegan Johannes moving to Sundowns. Additionally, right-back Nyiko Mobbie is also part of the swap deal and is heading to SuperSport.

Goss’s return to SuperSport comes after a successful loan spell, during which he made over 50 appearances for Matsatsantsa under the guidance of coach Gavin Hunt. His consistent performances earned him a call-up to the national team, where he represented South Africa in the recent AFCON.

Despite his accomplishments, Goss faced stiff competition for the goalkeeper position at Sundowns, with Ronwen Williams, Denis Onyango, Reyaad Pieterse, and Jody February vying for the starting spot. Recognising the importance of regular game time for his career progression and national team aspirations, Goss opted to rejoin Matsatsantsa.

RICARDO GOSS AIMING FOR BAFANA BAFANA SPOT

Goss’s decision to rejoin SuperSport United couldn’t have come at a more crucial time. With Bafana involved in AFCON qualifiers for next year’s tournament in Morocco and aiming for a spot in the extended 2026 FIFA World Cup, Goss’s ability to maintain his form and sharpness through regular playing time is of utmost importance.

The goalkeeper is expected to feature prominently in SuperSport’s upcoming campaigns. His return to SuperSport United promises to be a win-win situation for the club and the player as Goss seeks to solidify his position as one of South Africa’s top goalkeeping talents.

Meanwhile, Mobbie’s agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed that the Bafana fullback was on the verge of the SuperSport switch. He has had several loan spells since joining Masandawana in 2019. Mobbie spent the last three seasons at Sekhukhune United on the back of a stint with Chippa United.

“The deal for Nyiko Mobbie to move to SuperSport United from Mamelodi Sundowns is not done yet, but I can tell you it is very close, of course, on a permanent move, not a loan,” Makaab told FARPost.
