TS Galaxy completes signing of Stellenbosch FC defender Sibande

TS Galaxy have completed the signing of Qobolwakhe Sibande, a highly rated Stellenbosch FC defender, ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.

The Rockets are in the pre-season, preparing for what promises to be an exciting campaign in the Premiership.

Galaxy was one of the exciting teams to watch last season as they finished sixth on the log standings. They won 12 matches in the league, drew eight and lost 10 times in 30 games. They also clinched a silver medal in the inaugural 2023 Carling Knockout Cup after losing 5-4 on penalties against Stellenbosch FC in December 2023.

Meanwhile, TS Galaxy are expected to undergo changes in their squad for the upcoming season. The Tim Sukazi team has already lost captain Pogiso Sanoka, Lehlogonolo Mojela, and Fiacre Ntwari, who has signed for Kaizer Chiefs, as reported by FARPost.

Sanoka has signed a two-year deal with SuperSport United while Lehlohonolo Mojela made a switch to Stellies.

Sibande played second fiddle to Fawaaz Basadien in the left-back position at Stellenbosch after playing most matches as a second-half substitute.

The 24-year-old wing-back, who has featured in 28 matches across all competitions, is joining Galaxy in search of regular playing time.

“Qobolwakhe Sibande is now a TS Galaxy player after Stellenbosch and TS Galaxy reached an agreement,” a source said. “It’s a fresh start for Sibande, and he will be looking to cement a regular starting berth at TS Galaxy because he hasn’t played as much as he would have loved to at Stellenbosch.

“He’s a quality player who can play as a left-back, left-winger and left-footed centre-back, so that paints a picture of how much of a good player Sibande is.”

In addition, Galaxy has signed Siphesihle Maduna on a free transfer after parting ways with Cape Town Spurs last month.
