Richards Bay FC’s imminent 7th signing Ian Otieno arrives in SA

Richards Bay FC imminent 7th signing Ian Otieno has arrived in KZN ahead of the start of the 2024/25 season.

Natal Rich Boyz have been actively strengthening their squad in the transfer market as they aim for a stronger comeback next season.

Otieno is set to become their seventh signing, bolstering the goalkeeping department of Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s team.

FARPost understands he arrived in Richards Bay towards the end of the week. He’s set to join the team in preparations for the new season.

The Sfiso ‘Jomo’ Biyela-owned side signed Otieno after a stellar campaign with the Zambian side Zesco United.

Otieno will be vying for a starting position against Saalim Magoola, Malcom Jacobs, and Philasande Manqele.

Magoola recently signed a three-year contract extension and will be staying with the club until 2027. Meanwhile, Richards Bay also bid farewell to Jackson Mabokgwane who left after spending just one season with the KZN side.

Manqele, on the other hand, earned a promotion to the senior team during the previous season and left a lasting impression in the limited number of matches he participated in.  

He successfully blocked a penalty shot against Orlando Pirates during the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final, resulting in Orlando Pirates being eliminated from the competition.

OTHER RICHARDS BAY FC SIGNINGS

Meanwhile, Richards Bay have welcomed Siyethemba Sithebe, Keagan Allan, Fezile Gcaba, Sbani Mntungwa, Thabiso Kutumela and Tlakusani Mthethwa.

They also promoted Wandile Ngema, Lindokuhle Zikhali, Thabisa Ndelu, Ntlonelo Bomelo, Philasande Manqele and Siphesihle Mtshali 

The Natal Rich Boyz, who have recently secured a substantial financial injection through a R100 million sponsorship agreement with Phakwe Gas, are reportedly interested in Thabang Sibanyoni and Gabadinho Mhango.

They want to bring Sibanyoni on board on a loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns. Meanwhile, Mhango remains a free agent after Moroka Swallows were sold to Marumo Gallants.
