Stellenbosch FC sign former Chiefs player Omega Mdaka

Stellenbosch FC have acquired the services of former Kaizer Chiefs player Omega Mdaka on a long-term deal.

The 20-year-old footballer signs his first professional contract with the reigning Carling Knockout champions, having progressed through the Soweto giants’ development ranks.

Mdaka was one of the players who left the Glamour Boys Diski Challenge [DDC] side after they refused to be ball retrievers in a Carling Knockout Cup game against AmaZulu FC in October 2023.

The other player who had to leave Amakhosi after the ball retrievers saga is Puso Dithejane, who has since joined TS Galaxy.

Meanwhile, players like Donay Jansen, Lungile Nkosi, Siyabonga Gumede and Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi were all suspended for their misconduct.

After Mdaka left Chiefs, he started training with AmaZulu FC with the aim of securing a permanent deal with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

As previously reported by this publication, Mdaka didn’t join Usuthu because the two parties couldn’t agree on transfer negotiations. Coach Pablo Franco confirmed that the promising defender was being assessed to potentially be with their reserve team.

However, Franco was impressed with what he had seen in Mdaka after the player trained with them for a week.

STELLENBOSCH CEO ROB BENADIE SAYS OMEGA MDAKA ‘HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE’

On the other hand, Stellenbosch’s Chief Executive Officer [CEO] Rob Benadie revealed that they are happy to have Mdaka on board, citing that the defender “has a bright future ahead of him.”

“We are excited to welcome a player of Omega’s potential to the Club,” said the club’s CEO Benadie. He has a bright future ahead of him, and I have no doubt that Stellenbosch is the right place for him to develop his talent.”
