Mamelodi Sundowns part ways with Promise Mkhuma

Reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have parted ways with Promise Mkhuma ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The attacking midfielder spent the previous campaign on loan with Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks. Mkhuma struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the club after featuring in 11 matches across all competitions with no goals and assists to his name.

The 24-year-old attacker joined the University of Pretoria from Sundowns on a season-long loan at the start of the 2023/24 campaign. Before signing with Tuks, Mkhuma was on loan at the now-defunct All Stars, where he played 12 games and scored two goals.

Mkhuma was promoted to the Masandawana first team in 2020 by then-head coach Pitso Mosimane after producing impressive performances in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side.

The former SA junior international has featured in 23 games for Sundowns and he’s leaving without opening his scoring account for the club.

PROMISE MKHUMA IS A FREE AGENT AFTER PARTING WAYS WITH MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

With Sundowns currently undergoing drastic changes in their squad, FARPost understands that Mkhuma is now a free agent as his contract at the Tshwane giants was not renewed when it expired on the 30th of June 2024.

The Brazilians opted against exercising the option on Mkhuma’s contract, and he’s free to join a club of his choice on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, Sundowns have also parted ways with Thabiso Kutumela, Gaston Sirino, Bongani Zungu, and Brian Onyango.

A few weeks ago, Downs made a shocking decision to cut ties with head coach Rulani Mokwena on mutual consent. Mokwena left Sundowns with three years left before his contract expired. The highly-rated tactician has since taken over the coaching role at Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

In addition, the 2016 CAF Champions League winners signed Kobamelo Kodisang from Portuguese side Moreirense F.C. The 24-year-old star signed a three-year contract with an option to extend for a further two years.
