Mobara and Sikhakhane staying put at AmaZulu

AmaZulu FC’s defensive duo of Abbubaker Mobara and Thembela Sikhakhane remain with Usuthu despite their absence from the weeklong preseason camp in Benoni, Gauteng. AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has firmly dismissed reports suggesting the duo’s departure.

Amidst a flurry of preseason activity across the DStv Premiership, Usuthu have been diligently preparing for the 2024/25 campaign. However, the absence of Sikhakhane and Mobara raised eyebrows and fuelled speculation about their future with the club.

Mobara, who joined Usuthu in January 2022 from Cape Town City, has become a key figure in the squad. The 30-year-old has amassed over 50 appearances in two and a half seasons. Sikhakhane, a stalwart with over 160 appearances for AmaZulu, has also been a consistent performer. The 31-year-old featured in 17 league games last season.

WHAT SANDILE ZUNGU SAID ABOUT MOBARA AND SIKHAKHANE’S AMAZULU FUTURE

Addressing the rumours head-on, Zungu confirmed that both players remain integral to the team’s plans for the upcoming season. “There’s been a couple of rumours about a whole lot of things, starting with players like Mobara and Sikhakhane. I want to state categorically that they are our players. They are core to our objectives as AmaZulu going forward. They’re not going anywhere.”

Zungu further explained the players’ absence from preseason camp. He cited a “whole host of reasons” that prevented them from travelling with the team.

Meanwhile, the club president also addressed concerns regarding the absence of young talent Siphephelo Majola, who was seen on crutches. The Usuthu supremo emphasised Majola’s importance to the team’s future. “The young Majola could not travel with the team… He’s core to the team. He’s a critical member, a young player. Watch him for the future.”

With the new season fast approaching, AmaZulu intensify their preparations with Sikhakhane and Mobara involved. Majola will have to wait a little longer before he returns to the pitch.
