SAFA and Tebogo Motlanthe edge closer to a reunion
Former South African Football Association [SAFA] CEO Tebogo Motlanthe is edging closer to a return to the football mother body, FARPost has learnt. Motlanthe has recently been working with the association on a consultancy basis.
He was in charge of legal matters at the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs in Upington. Motlanthe was also present at the SAFA annual congress in April. The advocate was reportedly appointed CEO of newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship club Kruger United. Kruger were promoted to the national first division alongside Highbury FC from the Eastern Cape last month. However, the club has not officially confirmed the appointment of Motlanthe at the club.
Motlanthe resigned from SAFA in May 2023 and was replaced by Lydia Monyepao who has been at the helm ever since. He was linked with a possible role at the PSL but nothing came out of it.
WHAT PRESIDENT DANNY JORDAAN SAID ABOUT A POSSIBLE RETURN OF THE FORMER CEO
During an exclusive interview with FARPost last month, the SAFA president hinted that a possible return for Motlanthe was on the cards.
“He’s a legal advisor and he helped with the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs. We are happy to have him,” Jordaan told this publication.
“He’s made a great contribution to SAFA, and he will continue to contribute, we are very happy with him. Well, we will talk to him about that in the future,” said Jordaan about a return for Motlanthe.
