Daniel Msendami embraces the ‘Next Khama Billiat’ tag
Ahead of his maiden in the DStv Premiership, Zimbabwean winger Daniel Msendami is confident and has embraced the ‘Next Khama Billiat‘ tag.
A lot is expected from the Zimbabwean winger Daniel Msendami, especially after receiving rave reviews from his former coach, Morena Ramoreboli.
On Monday, Marumo Gallants unveiled the winger whose stock rose under Ramoreboli at Jwaneng Galaxy. In fact, it was Ramoreboli who tipped Msendami to reach Khama Billiat’s level, but only if he remains focused.
“He’s one player whom I believe, if he remains focused, can be the next Khama Billiat,” Ramoreboli told FARPost last year.
Gallants were successful in what is a transfer coup for the 23-year-old, who was also on TP Mazembe’s radar.
The likes of AmaZulu FC, Stellenbosch and SuperSport United were also angling for the winger. He is regarded as a key part of The Warriors of Zimbabwe’s posterity.
Msendami chose Gallants, where he felt game time would be guaranteed as he hoped for a steady rise.
MSENDAMI EAGER TO EMULATE HIS COMPATRIOT, BILLIAT
As such, he has embraced the ‘Next Khama Billiat’ tag. He is determined to achieve more in the DStv Premiership.
“I need to work harder and I’m not even under pressure because of that, I am Daniel Msendami,” Msendami told FARPost.
He joins Gallants on their return to the top-flight after purchasing Moroka Swallows’ franchise. It remains to be seen if he can reach or surpass what Billiat achieved during his time in the PSL
Billiat won multiple trophies with Mamelodi Sundowns. He took home three league title medals. The 33-year-old helped Mamelodi Sundowns win a CAF Champions League.
Together, they also accounted for the CAF Super Cup title. At individual level, he took home awards that include the 2016 PSL Player of the Season.
He was also named Players’ Player of the season and the Midfielder of the Season in that season. Billiat finished as runner-up to Denis Onyango for the CAF African Player of the Year based in Africa award for 2016.
