Farouk Khan reveals the area Chiefs ‘must’ reinforce ahead of the new season

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has shared his opinion on the position the club must prioritise reinforcing ahead of the new season.

Chiefs just started a new chapter under Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi, and they are currently in Turkey for their pre-season as they look to end the long trophy drought.

The Soweto giants have made some adjustments to their squad, parting ways with senior players like Keagan Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Sifiso Hlanti. According to the club’s marketing director, Jessica Motaung, experienced goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune is still in negotiations with the club for a new deal.

To strengthen the squad, Chiefs have brought in full-back Bongani Sam from rivals Orlando Pirates and goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy. As the team continues with its pre-season, more signings are expected to be announced.

FAROUK KHAN ON THE POSITION CHIEFS SHOULD BOLSTER

Khan believes that Amakhosi should sign a skilled attacking midfielder. Already, they have parted ways with Dolly; however, in that position, they have other players like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Mduduzi Mdantsane, starlet Mfundo Vilakazi, Edson Castillo Mduduzi Shabalala, and George Matlou.

Mdantsane and Matlou are out due to injuries. It leaves out Castillo, Vilakazi, Shabalala and Ngcobo.

“Chiefs have a good squad and great attacking players. But I think they should get an attacking midfielder,” Khan told FARost. “They should get someone who is a ball player, creative, makes those runs around the box, good passer and has a good vision.

“With that position solved, I think they will do well in the upcoming season. It’s a completely different set-up that promises to be different; let’s wait and see.”

Ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, the Glamour Boys will be aiming to bounce back following their worst season in the PSL. They missed out on the top eight after finishing 10th on the log standings. In addition, they haven’t won a trophy in the past nine years.
