Golden Arrows and Teboho Motloung go separate ways

Lamontville Golden Arrows have parted ways with midfielder Teboho Motloung as the club’s squad revamp continues ahead of the new season.

The 24-year-old midfielder, Motloung, was released after just a one-season stay at the Durban-based outfit, having joined at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign from JDR Stars.

Motloung struggled somewhat for playing time, managing only one start in seven DStv Premiership appearances he amassed last season. He came on from the bench on six occasions.

He was also an unused substitute six times.

FARPost understands Motloung departed the club at the beginning of the week and is now on the hunt for a new club where he can potentially blossom next season.

He understandably becomes the fourth departure for Abafana Bes’thende’s first team who have also parted company with Olufemi Kayode, Siyavuya Ndlovu and Thubelihle Magubane.

Nigerian goalkeeper Kayode joined Abafana Bes’thende at the start of last season. The club hoped he would strengthen their goalkeeping department.

However, their goalkeeping struggles persisted especially during Ismail Watenga’s absence due to injury. They have since re-signed Watenga on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns and brought on board Edward Maova from AmaTuks.

Kayode only managed one appearance in the DStv Premiership and two Carling Knockout Cup matches, conceding five goals in those games.

The defender Ndlovu leaves after a five-year stay at Arrows, having joined in 2020 from the now-defunct Real Kings.

Ndlovu enjoyed regular playing time during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons. However, his appearances dwindled last season, as he only managed four in all competitions. All in all, Ndlovu collected over 50 appearances for the club, contributing one goal and one assist.

Meanwhile, Magubane joined the Durban-based club in the 2021/22 season, signing from TS Sporting. However, the left-winger struggled to find his footing, making only 19 appearances during his time there.

Apart from Maova, the Arrows have signed Bongani Cele, Menzi Masuku, Lwanda Mbanjwa, and Keenan Phillips to strengthen their team for the upcoming season.
