Keanin Ayer under assessment for potential SuperSport United move

SuperSport United is currently assessing the potential addition of versatile midfielder Keanin Ayer to their squad.

The 24-year-old player, who can operate as a right-back or central midfielder, on Wednesday showcased his skills in a friendly match against Stellenbosch FC, where he played under the watchful eye of coach Gavin Hunt.

Ayer’s contract with Danish 1st Division side Næstved Boldklub has expired, making him a free agent. This presents an opportunity for SuperSport to secure the services of a player who has gained valuable experience in European football.

Having spent five years at the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana as a youngster, Ayer embarked on an unconventional path to Europe. He got his first European dance at Swedish side Varbergs BoIS before moving on to Sandefjord in Norway.

Ayer’s time at Varberg since August 2018 saw him become a key contributor, making 68 appearances while netting three goals and providing five assists.

His versatility on the field, coupled with his technical ability and goal-scoring prowess, has caught the attention of SuperSport.

Ayer’s playing style is characterised by quick decision-making, neat footwork and an impressive work rate. He possesses the ability to contribute both defensively and offensively, making him an attractive prospect for any team.

The midfielder’s journey to professional football has been marked by perseverance and determination. Raised in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg, he sought refuge in the Right to Dream Academy, where he honed his skills and developed his potential. His performances in the prestigious Gothia Cup tournament in Sweden ultimately earned him a move to Europe.
