Veluyeke Zulu finds new home in DStv Premiership
FARPost has it on good authority that former AmaZulu FC defender Veluyeke Zulu has signed for DStv Premiership side Marumo Gallants ahead of the new season.
The 29-year-old footballer joins Gallants after weeks of training with Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Baroka FC, as first reported by this website.
This move comes after recent rumours that Zulu had joined Orlando Pirates in Spain for their pre-season training camp. But the talented centre-back has been without a club since cutting ties with Usuthu at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
He joined the Pablo Franco-coached side in July 2022 following his satisfying performances at Chippa United. At the Chilli Boys, he played 27 games and scored two goals. At AmaZulu, he managed to feature in 18 matches.
HOW LONG IS VELUYEKE ZULU JOINING MARUMO GALLANTS FOR?
This publication has gathered that Zulu joins Bahlabane ba Ntwa on a one-year contract with an option to extend for another season.
Zulu is expected to add his extensive experience to Gallants’ defensive options, having made 52 appearances across all competitions in the SA elite league.
In his football career, he also had stints with teams such as Maritzburg United, Royal Eagles, Golden Arrows, and Richards Bay FC.
Meanwhile, Gallants are also assessing former Masandawana defender Nicholus Lukhubeni, ex-Amakhosi players Kamohelo Mahlatsi and Kgotso Moleko, Edwin Gymah and Nhlanhla Mgaga, who recently parted ways with Babina Noko and Stellies respectively.
Gallants recently relocated to Bloemfontein in the Free State province after purchasing the DStv Premiership status of Moroka Swallows.
Bahlabane ba Ntwa confirmed that they will play their home matches at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium, with big games scheduled to take place at Toyota Free State Stadium.
Gallants will be under the tutelage of Dylan Kerr in the upcoming season, who returns to the club having previously helped the team reach the semi-finals of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup.
