Chiefs set to measure their pedigree against Qatar outfit

Kaizer Chiefs are set to continue testing their pedigree ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season as they date a Qatar outfit on Saturday.

Amakhosi have been in Turkey – Istanbul for the past two weeks, under the watchful eye of their new coach, Nasreddine Nabi.

The Soweto giants are keen to end their nine-year PSL drought in the upcoming season, having been a pale shadow of themselves in recent years.

Chiefs went to Turkey without Tebogo Potsane, Dillan Solomons, Mduduzi Mdantsane and George Matlou due to injuries. Edmilson Dove and Bongani Sam were also injured while training in Turkey, something that worries Nabi building up to the new season.

The Mozambican international and Sam have already returned back to South Africa for full assessment and medical attention. However, the club is expected to announce additional new signings at the end of July.

However, with the available players, the Naturena-based side will test their pedigree against Qatar outfit Al Shahaniya.

“With the team continuing with their pre-season camp and preparations in Turkiye, Amakhosi will play their third practice/friendly match against Qatar’s Al Shahaniya SC in Istanbul on Saturday, 20 July,” Chiefs confirmed on their website.

“Al Shahaniya gained promotion to the Qatar Stars League [QSL] after they were crowned champions at the end of the previous season.”

Meanwhile, the club is keeping its cards close to its chests on the transfer market, having already pinned down two players.

They acquired the services of left-back Sam. Most recently, they signed goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari from TS Galaxy.

He is the second signing for Chiefs this season, following the arrival of Sam from Orlando Pirates. Ntwari will compete for the goalkeeper position with Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Peterson, and Bontle Molefe.

However, Visa issues forced the cancellation of his trip to Turkey, where he was expected to join the team. Hopes are high for Chiefs to improve in the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season.
