Chippa United announces coaching changes for 2024/25 season
DStv Premiership outfit Chippa United FC have announced coaching changes for the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Last season, Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September took on the roles of co-coaches mid-season, successfully steering the club away from the relegation zone. The Chilli Boys finished 11 points clear of the relegation spots.
Building on this, Chippa is now determined to not only compete but thrive in the new season.
WHAT COACHING CHANGES HAVE CHIPPA UNITED MADE?
The club on Thursday confirmed via a statement that Kopo had been elevated to sole head coach for the 2024/25 season. His strategic acumen and proven leadership are expected to propel the team forward.
Thabo September will assume the role of assistant coach, with a specific emphasis on developing young talent from the Eastern Cape. His extensive experience in youth and reserve team coaching makes him well-suited to lead this initiative.
The club’s management believes that these changes will enhance the team’s competitive edge and strengthen its ties to the Eastern Cape community. By nurturing local talent, Chippa aims to become a source of pride and inspiration for the region.
“In alignment with these objectives, the club decided to appoint Kopo as a head coach for the 2024/25 season,” read the statement.
“Thabo September will take on the role of assistant coach, and his extensive experience in development, particularly at the reserve and developmental level, positions him perfectly to spearhead our efforts in nurturing local talent from the Eastern Cape and bringing them into our team.
“We believe this will enhance our competitive urge and help us fulfil our commitment to bring the pride of the Eastern Cape.”
Kopo is the more experienced of the two coaches, who both previously worked for SuperSport United. Before joining Chippa, Kopo was coach of Pretoria Callies.
Meanwhile, in other transfer news on Thursday, Mamelodi Sundowns announced that goalkeeper Ricardo Goss will once again join SuperSport on a loan deal for the upcoming season, as confirmed by FARPost a few days ago.
