Adams, Basadien, Rayners? Stellies CEO declares ‘No one is leaving’

Stellenbosch FC CEO Rob Benadie has made a strong statement in response to rumours linking some of his players to Gauteng clubs.

The constant success of Stellies has put their talented players on the radar of the so-called big clubs.

In recent seasons, the Winelands side has lost the likes of Ashley Du Preez, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Junior Mendieta to Gauteng clubs.

This transfer window has seen midfielder Jayden Adams linked heavily to Mamelodi Sundowns, while Fawaaz Basadien, Deano van Rooyen, and Iqraam Rayners have been linked with moves to Soweto clubs.

Benadie has insisted that none of his players will be departing for now. He believes they will be crucial for their debut campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

“As far as [signings are concerned], we have strengthened our squad. I think the signings of Sanele Barns and Bradley Mojela are quite key,” said Bennadie during the exclusive with the South African Football Journalists’ Association [SAFJA].

“We really feel that from an offensive point of view, our attacking midfield and strike force, we’ve got enough there now.

“We’re definitely not in the market looking for anybody there. I think we’re very dangerous going forward with those front players.

“At this stage, as we’re sitting here now, no one is leaving. Probably it won’t stay that way but no one is leaving.”

Additionally, he disclosed that the club has strengthened its technical staff in preparation for the upcoming hectic schedule, recruiting additional personnel for the following season.

“We’ve also strengthened off-the-field; we brought in another bio kineticist which is gonna help us with strength and conditioning and rehabilitation of players because you’ve got some players in Africa travelling, and you’ve got others working back home in Stellenbosch, getting ready for a PSL game.

“[We have also] added extra physiotherapist throughout our club and extra conditioning coach that we’ve also brought in.”
