Baroka FC turn down Sekhukhune’s offer for highly-rated defender
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC have turned down an offer from Sekhukhune United to sign highly-rated right-back, Tshepho Mashiloane.
Sekhukhune are facing a major shake-up in the right-back position after losing Nyiko Mobbie, who spent the last three seasons with the club on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mobbie has been in three loan stints with Babina Noko since they gained promotion to the DStv Premiership from the NFD in 2021.
In the previous campaign, the Bafana Bafana international was a regular starter for Sekhukhune after playing 35 matches across all competitions.
But Mobbie has since completed a permanent transfer move from Sundowns to SuperSport United ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The Limpopo-based side currently has Katlego Mkhabela as the only natural right-back in the squad, prompting them to go into the market.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED MISS OUT ON SIGNING TSHEPHO MASHILOANE
In a bid to beef up their the right-back position, Sekhukhune approached Baroka for the services of Tshepho Mashiloane, however the offer was rejected.
Mashiloane was one of the outstanding performers for Bakgakga in the second-tier last season, as the club finished third on the league table.
He featured in 27 matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as Baroka conceded the third fewest goals. In addition, he scored one goal.
Mashiloane also played all four matches in the PSL promotion/relegation playoffs that were won by Richards Bay FC over a month ago. The pacey wing-back signed a first-team contract at Baroka from the club’s development side in July 2022.
“Sekhukhune United approached their Limpopo neighbours Baroka for the services of Tshepho Mashiloane, but it looks like Baroka are not willing to sell,” a source told FARPost.
“The reasons for Baroka to decline an offer from Sekhukhune are not known at this point, all I can tell you is that they were turned back.
“With that being said, we’ve seen unbelievable things happen in the transfer window before, so we can’t rule out the possibility of both clubs going back to the table to negotiate.”
