Thamsanqa Gabuza & ex-Arrows defender resurfaces at Maritzburg United

Former Orlando Pirates striker Thamsanqa Gabuza and a defender who recently left Golden Arrows have resurfaced at Maritzburg United.

Gabuza has been clubless since February after parting ways with TS Galaxy. He spent seven months with the Rockets after joining at the start of previous the season following his departure from SuperSport United in June 2023.

Throughout his tenure at Galaxy, Gabuza amassed eight DStv Premiership appearances, starting four matches and coming in as a substitute on four occasions.

The 36-year-old forward is hoping to reignite his career in the upcoming campaign. However, it’s unclear whether he has put pen to paper with the KZN side.

Thamsanqa Gabuza was on the bench as an unused substitute for the Team of Choice during their 1-1 draw in the friendly match against Nsingizini Hotspurs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday.

After seeing a lot of action in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, he struggled to get playing time in the previous season.

Ndlovu hopes to rejuvenate himself under coach Simo Dladla, who previously worked with him at Real Kings during Ndlovu’s stint with the club from 2017 to 2020.

He racked up over 50 appearances in all competitions for Arrows and only managed one goal.

Maritzburg have also brought in additional trialists during this pre-season as they look to build a strong squad capable of challenging for promotion back to the top flight next season.

Finishing fourth last season with 46 points from 30 games, the Team of Choice fell just one point short of Baroka FC who claimed third place.

Bakgaga Ba Mphahlele, along with AmaTuks, then went on to take part in the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs.
