Dominic Isaacs’ ‘only’ concern about the new Kaizer Chiefs technical team

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs has revealed his only concern about the new Kaizer Chiefs technical team led by Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi.

The Soweto giants made drastic changes to their technical team ahead of the 2024/25 PSL season as they look to end their trophy drought that stretches nine seasons.

Last season, Chiefs experienced their worst-ever run in the PSL, finishing 10th in the league. They started the campaign with Molefi Ntseki at the helm, but the former Bafana Bafana coach was shown the exit and was replaced by Cavin Johnson on an interim basis.

At this point, the club has not made any announcements about Dillon Sheppard, who served as an assistant coach last season.

The Glamour Boys brought in the experienced Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi, who came alongside his own technical team. This team includes assistant coaches, Khalil Ben Youssef and Fernando Da Cruz, goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, and strength and conditioning coach Safi Majdi.

Currently, Amakhosi are in pre-season camp in Turkey, where they are getting ready and gearing up for the upcoming campaign.

DOMINIC ISAACS ON THE KAIZER CHIEFS TECHNICAL TEAM

Isaacs approves of the new technical team that has been appointed. However, he’s concerned that no SA coach is on the new structures.

“They are great coaches, but my opinion is when that coach leaves, he leaves with his whole technical team. I don’t see anyone from the Chiefs development structures or someone working with the coaches in the long-term who has been at Chiefs for a while and knows the club,” Isaacs told FARPost.

“Look at Carlos Alberto Perreira; he worked with Pitso [Mosimane]. Pitso learnt a lot from Perreira. That’s my opinion; I would have loved to see someone there from the Chiefs structures that would learn from these experienced coaches.

“But, I don’t know, maybe they are doing that someone with like David Mathebula, who is in the development of Chiefs.

“As it stands on paper, there is no South African or Chiefs coach; Nabi will leave with his entire technical team, and none of the local Chiefs coaches will gain any knowledge from them.”
