Why Kobamelo Kodisang chose Mamelodi Sundowns
SA midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang has explained his decision to join the DStv Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on a long-term deal ahead of the new season.
The 24-year-old joined Sundowns on a five-year contract, most recently following his stint at Moreirense FC in the Primeira Liga in Portugal, where he spent two seasons.
Speaking on Sundowns’ Pitchside Podcast with former captain Hlompho Kekana, Kodisang explained that he made the decision to return to the PSL with his agent.
HOW MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LATEST SIGNING CHOSE THE CLUB
“I took the decision [together] with my agent and we concluded that this is where I should be,” he said. “I was able to watch some football, and I liked the style of play. Sundowns is a big team and a team that I wanted to play for here at home. I want to give the club my absolute best and see where it takes me.”
The former Bidvest Wits star has also shared his experience in Europe, where he spent seven seasons.
“It’s different that side because even the style of play from here home and that side in Portugal is different. On that side, the ball moves too much. But outside, the culture and everything is difficult. Even the food tastes different.”
WHAT IS MASANDAWANA NEW STAR KOBAMELO KODISANG PREFERRED POSITION?
Having played as a winger for most of his career, Kodisang also clarified his preferred position.
“I would say a winger, sometimes number 10 because growing up, I was a midfielder,” he said.
“So I used to play number 10 or number eight until I played in the first team {at Platinum Stars]. So, after I joined the first team, the coach felt that I was too young.
“The coach thought I should go [play] on the sides because there is a little bit of space in the middle. So I was a number 10 who was also comfortable on the ball.”
