Mabhuti Khenyeza on how Arrows dealt with Komphela’s abrupt exit
Golden Arrows stand-in coach Mabhuti Khenyeza has spoken about how the club dealt with Steve Komphela’s shock exit.
Komphela returned to Mamelodi Sundowns to take up the Senior Coach role after the departure of Rulani Mokwena.
The 57-year-old mentor, Komphela had been with Abafana Bes’thende for just five months in what was his second stint with the Durban-based club.
Khenyeza insisted that there was no animosity as a result of Komphela’s sudden departure and is confident that the players are capable of carrying on with their duties.

“We need to thank the club for bringing in someone like Steve Komphela with lots of experience,” he told the media.
“Besides his name and reputation, there’s a lot of things that we as the technical team benefited from him and the same goes for the players in everything that we do.
“It’s very important that I say that the players took it in a positive way, and now it’s just up to us and the players to take that and move on.”
He was asked about the head coach role, which the club has seemingly not made a decision on. He revealed he’s currently in charge as the team continues to prepare for next season in the pre-season training.
“I don’t know,” responded the ex-Kaizer Chiefs striker. “At the moment, I’m the one in charge, just doing the job.”
He added that he hadn’t met the management regarding the club’s mandate for the upcoming campaign.
“I don’t know. I haven’t met with management yet. Maybe I still need to wait for their mandate,” concluded Khenyeza.
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Khenyeza was the sole head coach of Arrows last season after co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi left to join Chippa United in September.
Following a prolonged slump in results, in March, he was demoted to the assistant coach role, with the club appointing Komphela.
