Siphelele Mthembu resurfaces at new club in PSL
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siphelele Mthembu has resurfaced at Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka FC after parting ways with Pretoria Callies.
FARPost spotted the 36-year-old striker during their friendly match against Venda FC in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo, on Saturday.
Mthembu spent the past two seasons at Pretoria Callies, where he scored 15 goals during that period. Before his move to the first division, Mthembu spent some time at DStv Premiership side AmaZulu FC and Cape Town City FC.
BAROKA FC TO SIGN FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STRIKER SIPHELELE MTHEMBU?
This publication has established that Mthembu has been training with Baroka for some time now. It remains unclear whether he has joined the club, but indications are that he will spend the next season at Baroka.
Baroka struggled in front of goals during the past season, with Siyabonga Mthombeni as their only out-and-out striker. The club brought in Gift Motupa towards the end of the season, but the former Mamelodi Sundowns marksman did not last.
EX-CAPTAIN TRAINING WITH MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE
Meanwhile, two of Baroka’s former players have also been training with the club and also featured against Venda FC. Former captain Olaleng Shaku was a notable player on the team on Saturday.
Shaku was involved in the infamous incident in 2018, which resulted in the club dismissing him, Oscarine Masuluke, and then coach Kgoloko Thobejane. The trio were accused of indulging in improper behaviour while on their way from a league match against Free State Stars.
The club had previously reconciled with Thobejane and Masuluke while Shaku had moved on. He went on to join Platinum City Rovers while they were playing in the ABC Motsepe League up until their promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The club was relegated back to the ABC Motsepe League at the end of last season.
Meanwhile, Mxolisi Kunene is also one of the players who has been training with the club. Kunene spent the past season at AmaZulu. He played for Baroka during the 2016/17 season.
