Tim Sukazi reveals unsuccessful bid to offer Sead Ramovic to Chiefs
TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has disclosed that he offered his head coach, Sead Ramovic, to Kaizer Chiefs when the Soweto giants were in search of a new coach ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Sukazi believes that Ramovic has the potential to transform Amakhosi into a dominant force in South African football.
But in a bid to end their nine-year trophy drought, Chiefs recently appointed Nasreddine Nabi as their new head coach. The highly-rated Tunisian tactician arrives not alone, bringing with him a complete technical team to guide Amakhosi forward.
Nabi’s trusted lieutenants include assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Fernando Da Cruz, goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi, and strength and conditioning coach Safi Majdi.
With a full support system in place, Nabi, who is currently with Amakhosi in Istanbul, Turkey, where they are having their pre-season camp, is poised to make a significant impact on the Chiefs’ fortunes.
“I did obviously tender him to one of our biggest clubs when they were looking for a coach,” Sukazi stated. “To say they can have him. I believe he would really turn their project and make Kaizer Chiefs the most formidable club.”
Despite Sukazi’s efforts, the move did not materialise, and Chiefs ultimately appointed Nabi as their new mentor. The Serbian is reportedly on the radar of Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.
Raja, the reigning Morocco champions, are under the tutelage of Jozef Zinnbauer. The former Orlando Pirates coach is linked with an exit. His assistant, Fadlu Davids, has already left the club and taken over as head coach at Simba SC.
SEAD RAMOVIC SNUB: KAIZER CHIEFS “HAVE GOT A DIFFERENT APPROACH”
“It never happened. It doesn’t matter. I would have wished he remained locally [assuming Raja take him] more, especially a club like Kaizer Chiefs. Maybe they’ve got a different approach. We all know they have a new coach…”
Ramovic has been instrumental in TS Galaxy’s success, leading the team to a sixth-place finish in the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season. They also reached the final of the Carling Knockout Cup.
The Serbian mentor is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in South Africa, and his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of his players have been praised by many.
While the move to Naturena may not have come to fruition, it is clear that Sukazi has high hopes for Ramovic and believes that he has the potential to achieve great things in his coaching career. He has tipped him to end up in the Bundesliga one day.
