Mamelodi Sundowns confirm Romain Folz’s appointment

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the appointment of Romain Folz as the club’s new assistant coach as the new PSL season looms large.

The former AmaZulu FC mentor will work alongside Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Wendell Robinson and Kennedy Mweene within the club’s technical team.

Romain was working within FIFA’s high-performance department before he could be recruited to join Bafana Ba Style.

His work as FIFA’s high-performance analyst was mainly focused on football development.

Folz’s appointment comes after the departure of coach Rulani Mokwena, who has since joined Moroccan giants Wydad AC.

ROMAIN FOLZ’s MOVE TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COMES HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

The French football manager comes highly recommended as he holds a UEFA Pro License.

Folz also has vast experience, having worked in African countries such as Guinea, Botswana, and Ghana.

The ex-Marumo Gallants coach has already joined the Brazilians in Austria for their pre-season training camp.

Masandawana further confirmed that they will play matches in the next few days as part of the ongoing pre-season.

Earlier today, Masandawana confirmed the acquisition of defender Kegan Johannes from cross-town rivals SuperSport United for an undisclosed fee. He joins the Tshwane giants on a permanent deal.

Johannes is the third signing of Sundowns in this transfer window period after the acquisitions of midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang from Portuguese side Moreirense FC and Brazilian centre-forward Arthur de Oliveira Sales.

The club intend to stay competitive in the SA elite league and conquer Africa through the CAF inter-club competitions.

Last season, Sundowns managed to win the inaugural African Football League title and completed an unprecedented seventh DStv Premiership title in a row. They also finished in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.
