Sundowns legend offers advice to players after coaching shakeup

In the wake of a recent coaching shakeup at Mamelodi Sundowns, club legend Roger Feutmba has stepped forward to offer words of wisdom to the players.

Following the departure of head coach Rulani Mokwena, who has taken on a new challenge in Morocco, the Brazilians find themselves in a period of transition.

As first reported by FARPost, long-serving coach Manqoba Mngqithi is set to take over as the head coach of Sundowns ahead of the upcoming season alongside Steve Komphela as senior coach and Romain Folz as an assistant.

However, according to Sundowns legend Feutmba, the recent coaching changes at the DStv Premiership champions mean nothing if the players remain focused. He has a deep understanding of the club’s identity and the demands of playing for the 2016 CAF Champions League winners.

WHY MAMELODI SUNDOWNS COACHING CHANGES SHOULD NOT IMPACT PLAYERS

“As a soccer player, you need to always understand that your job comes first,” the 58-year-old told FARPost.

“Truly speaking, a player at that level should always be a professional. Remember players at Sundowns are playing in the national team, playing international football. So they are well equipped.”

ROGER FEUTMBA ADVICE MASANDAWANA PLAYERS AHEAD OF A FRESH START

“The only thing they need to do is to focus on the mandate and what they have to achieve for the team. They have practical knowledge and all that. When you see Sundowns play, you would love to see them playing football.

“The quality involved in that team is massive. You can’t coach these players like you are coaching young boys. They know what to do. Like I was saying, I hope the coach has learned from their mistakes, and the players also I hope they have learned because in football you learn every day and you gain more experience,” he added.

“The main thing is that the core of the team is still there, so the team just needs to add players who can add value. I know Sundowns will always do well domestically.

“Even in Africa, with the quality of football, players, and structure, Sundowns deserve to win the Champions League. As I said, they need to remain focused, work hard and try to be better every day to make sure that they win the Champions League.”
