Former coach’s take on Selaelo Rasebotja’s high-profile move to Pirates
Mxolisi Silango, the coach who helped develop Selaelo Rasebotja at the School of Excellence, has weighed in on the midfielder’s high-profile move to Orlando Pirates.
Silango is one of the mentors that groomed and coached Rasebotja at the academy, till he graduated and turned pro in the 2021/22 campaign.
Rasebotja linked with the Bucs from another DStv Premiership side SuperSport United. His signing was made official in Spain during a pre-season camp when he featured in a friendly match against English Championship side Plymouth Argyle.
The 23-year-old’s main position is playing on the right side of the midfield, however, he’s versatile as he can play a more offensive role as a right winger or as a central midfield.
The Limpopo-born will be aiming to elevate his game with the Sea Robbers. Last season he struggled for game-time with Matsatsantsa only making 16 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net once.
MXOLISI SILANGO ON SELAELO RASEBOTJA JOINING ORLANDO PIRATES
Silango says Rasebotja is ready for a challenge, that’s why Pirates opted for him. He further advised the midfielder to elevate his game as Pirates is different from where he comes from. At Pirates the demand to deliver is high and there is stiff competition.
“I think he’s ready for the challenge, he only needs to adapt to the style of play,” Silango told FARPost. “He’s a player that can play anywhere, he’s a fast learner and he’s mature.
“I would love to see him play more so he can unlock his full potential and people can see what the boy can do. But it’s up to the coaches if they give the boy enough opportunity to play.
“Unfortunately, he picked up an injury last season, but I’m happy that he’s back. I hope he can maintain his fitness and stay injury-free.
“He has to work for his place there, Pirates is a big brand and they got quality players. He will be competing with some of the best talents, so he has to keep his A-game all the time.”
