Kegan Johannes reveals Sundowns player who influenced his switch to Chloorkop

Kegan Johannes has revealed a Mamelodi Sundowns player who played a significant role in his decision to join the club.

The versatile defender recently signed a long-term deal with the Brazilians after leaving crosstown rivals SuperSport United.

The move involved two Sundowns players who went in the opposite direction. Nyiko Mobbie joined Matsatsantsa on a permanent transfer while Ricardo Goss returned to the Swanky Boys on a season-long loan.

Speaking during an interview with Sundowns legend Hlompo Kekana on the Pitchside Podcast, Johannes revealed that Rushine De Reuck played a key role in his decision to join the DStv Premiership champions.

WHICH SUNDOWNS PLAYER PLAYED PART IN JOHANNES’ AFFECTION FOR THE CLUB

“It wasn’t even a former teammate, it was a fellow friend. The one that I speak to probably the most it was Rushine De Reuck,” said Johannes.

“I haven’t really spoken [that much] with my former teammates. Also I’ve spoken with Jody [February] as well and most of the guys I’ve played with before as well.

“That’s why I say it doesn’t necessarily need to be someone who comes from SuperSport.

“In the football fraternity, we all know each other, we all communicate. So, it was easy for me to ask one of the guys.”

He continued: “I just asked them how was the environment they told me that, ‘the environment here is winning’. That’s the culture of the club I’d say.

“And that aligns with me cause me I love to win. I’m not someone that’s gonna be okay with losing.”

JOHANNES’ GOALS AT SUNDOWNS

The 23-year-old defender set his sights on helping the club achieve even greater success, aiming to win more trophies than they ever had before.

“I want to make history or to write more history than what the club has already written,” added Johannes.

“And to win as many titles as possible, to set the standard where we would be the benchmark for other teams and for generations to come.

“If they speak about football heritage, they mention Mamelodi Sundowns.”
