Pitso Mosimane’s emotional response to receiving honorary doctorate

Renowned SA coach Pitso Mosimane has reacted to being honoured with a Doctorate by the University of Johannesburg on Wednesday afternoon in Johannesburg.

Mosimane was honoured with a Doctorate of Philosophy. Following this great achievement, the experienced mentor will now be addressed as Dr. Pitso Mosimane.

In his career as a coach, Mosimane has clinched many titles in different leagues with different clubs. These clubs include; SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Egypt’s Al Ahly, UAE Pro League side Al Wahda, Al Ahli Saudi and Abha Club of Saudi Arabia.

The 59-year-old has won four DStv Premiership titles [now called Betway Premiership], two Nedbank Cups, and two Telkom Knockout Cups [now called the Carling Knockout Cup]. Other trophies include three CAF Champions League titles, three CAF Super Cup titles, one Egyptian Premier League, one Egyptian Cup and the Saudi Arabian Championship.

Dr. Mosimane says his passion for football has opened doors that he dreamt of. This includes achievements like the Doctorate in Philosophy.

“I’m deeply honoured and humbled to stand before you today. With his Doctorate from the University of Johannesburg,” said Dr. Mosimane.

“This moment is a testament to the incredible journey, I’ve had in education and the beautiful game of football. Growing up, with a humble background in football I never imagined football would open doors like it has done for me.

“Football has been my passport to the world providing opportunities that I have dreamt of. I’ve connected with many high-profile personalities from presidents and international icons to the world’s best sports personalities and celebrities.

“Football has allowed me to improve the lives of my family and me, now also future generations. Football has given me the opportunity to coach against some of the best players in the world. Including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Sadio Mane, and Édouard Mendy just to mention a few. I have coached against top coaches like Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger.
