Rulani Mokwena poaches key Chippa figure for Wydad

Wydad Casablanca’s new coach, Rulani Mokwena, is reportedly targeting Chippa United’s goalkeeper coach, Sean Louw, for his team.

Mokwena took over the coaching reins at Wydad a few weeks ago after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.

In the previous campaign, Mokwena led Masandawana to their seventh successive league title and clinched the inaugural 2023 African Football League [AFL]. Interestingly, the highly-rated coach defeated Wydad Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate in the two-legged final.

Mokwena also won the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season for two seasons in a row since taking over as the sole head coach in October 2022.

Before taking the head coach role at Downs, the 37-year-old served as a co-coach alongside Manqoba Mngqithi between 2020 and 2022 after the then-head coach Pitso Mosimane left the Brazilians to join Al Ahly.

RULANI MOKWENA TO REUNITE WITH SEAN LOUW AT WYDAD CASABLANCA

With Mokwena currently bringing together his technical team to assist him at the Moroccan giants, FARPost understands that Chippa United goalkeeper coach Sean Louw is on his way to join Wydad.

Louw is a highly-rated goalkeeper coach who worked closely with Lloyd Kazapua and Stanley Nwabali who was one of the outstanding performers last season.

Nwabali helped Nigeria to reach the final of the 2023 AFCON where they lost in the final against the host nation Ivory Coast.

“Rulani Mokwena is looking to bring Sean Louw to Wydad Casablanca as the goalkeeper coach,” a source said. “Louw is very close to Rulani Mokwena because, at the age of 27, he is one of the most respected coaches in South African football.

“If you remember, Louw and Mokwena worked together at Chippa United even though it was the short term but already they formed a good working relationship.”
