Khabo Zondo explains why he decided to take a break from football

Well-traveled PSL coach Khabo Zondo has explained why he decided to take a much-needed break from football.

Zondo has been unattached after parting ways with Betway Premiership side Royal AM in 2023. He was appointed by Thwihli Thwahla two years ago after having also spent some time without a team.

In his coaching career, the 62-year-old has coached the now-defunct Thembisa Classics, Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows and Royal Eagles FC. In addition, Zondo once led the SA under-20 national team

The experienced mentor said he needed a break from football to refresh his mind and learn new perspectives from a distance.

Zondo was part of the coaches who graduated with the CAF B coaching license this year. In putting his skills to practice, the mentor visited TS Galaxy and was part of the first team’s training sessions for some time.

“I have been out of the game for a long time, I decided to take break just to see what is happening from a distance,” Zondo told FARPost.

“I love this beautiful game, I am still active in football, I am learning new things everyday. Well a while ago, I completed my CAF B coaching license and when the time is right I will upgrade that to a higher level [CAF A coaching license].

“But when the timing is right, I will get back at the game. I will be a better coach than I was in my last coaching job. I’m not in a hurry to get back, but when the timing is right and I am in a good space I will be back there. That’s what I can say.
