Jessica Motaung reveals Chiefs’ big plans before the start of Betway Premiership season

Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung has revealed big plans for the club prior to the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

The Glamour Boys, who had a poor showing last season which saw them finish 10th on the league table, recently returned from a pre-season tour in Turkey. Chiefs made major changes in the technical team with the appointment of Nasreddine Nabi as their new head coach.

Nabi is bringing his own technical team of two assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Fernando Da Cruz, while Ilyes Mzoughi and Safi Majdi are taking the goalkeeper coach and conditioning coach roles respectively.

The Tunisian mentor is taking over the hot seat from Cavin Johnson who served as the interim coach from October 2023. The Soweto giants started the 2023/24 campaign with Molefi Ntseki as the head coach, however, he was fired hardly three months into the job.

In the previous campaign, Chiefs won nine league games, drew nine and suffered 12 defeats. They collected 36 points, which was insufficient to secure a top-eight finish.

KAIZER CHIEFS HEADING TO BOTSWANA

The 2024/25 PSL season will commence with MTN8 and with Chiefs not taking part, Jessica Motaung says Amakhosi will go to Botswana to play friendlies to prepare for the Betway Premiership which starts in September.

“First of all I want to say congratulations to the league and its new sponsorship with Betway, we are excited about that,” Motaung said.

“Obviously we are looking forward to the new season with us having our fixtures starting in September, we have a number of friendlies that we’ll announce. I can say we will be in Botswana at the end of the month [July] which will be nice to be away and regroup again.

“We have exciting things, last night was a fantastic launch, thank you to the media and everybody who attended, we had a great time launching our jersey.

“So we have a lot of other things with our sponsors that we’ll be announcing and we looking forward to making this year or a season great for our supporters.

Meanwhile, Chiefs will face Young Africans SC in the mouth-watering Toyota Cup clash at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Sunday. The match will kick off at 3 pm.
