Chiefs vs Pirates: Kappa claims shocking jersey sales gap
Head of Kappa SA Ricky Joseph has made a bold claim about PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs’ jersey sales last season.
Amakhosi re-united with Italian sports supplier Kappa ahead of the 2023/24 season, putting to an end their 23-year partnership with Nike.
The length of the contract between the two parties is five years and they have just entered the second year. On Thursday, the Soweto giants and Kappa unveiled their new home and away kits ahead of the 2024/25 DStv Premiership at the Kaizer Chiefs Village.
WHAT RICKY JOSEPH SAID ABOUT KAIZER CHIEFS JERSEY SALES LAST SEASON
Joseph claims that Chiefs sold more jerseys than Orlando Pirates last season, despite failing to impress by lifting a piece of silverware. Pirates is one of the league’s giants and their kit supplier is Adidas.
“I can tell you Kaizer Chiefs sold double [more jerseys] than Orlando Pirates without lifting a trophy,” said Joseph at Chiefs jersey launch.
“The truth is, and I keep on mentioning, Kaizer Chiefs is a big brand in South Africa and Africa. The fans are the fans, we are not going to lose our supporters because of a few bad ideas but we need to start getting some results.
The club’s Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung further thanked Amakhosi faithful for their continued support through the years.
“We have to thank our supporters they have faith in us. Imagine what we can do going forward, we are laying a great foundation, it’s a foundation for success. We are looking forward to doing great things,” said Motaung.
Chiefs will wear their new kit for the first time on Sunday. They will take on Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC in the Toyota Cup at Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein.
