Chuene Morifi reveals why she chose to join Turkish side

Former Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies winger Chuene Morifi has opened up on her decision to sign for Turkish women’s football side, Beylerbeyi.

Morifi penned a one-year contract with Beylerbeyi. The 33-year-old footballer is hoping to impress the side with some stellar displays with the hope to extend her stay in Turkey.

The experienced winger has been with Banyana Ba Style since 2017. Morifi became one of the most decorated players at Sundowns Ladies having won the SASOL Women’s Championship title, the Hollywoodbet Super League title four times, the COSAFA CAF Women’s Qualifiers title two times, and the CAF Women’s Champions League trophy on two occasions.

Morifi is a versatile player who is able to play as a full-back winger in both defence and attack.

WHAT INFLUENCED CHUENE MORIFI TO JOIN BEYLERBEYI

Morifi revealed that she had multiple offers from different countries in Europe. Some of those offers were from France, Mexico and Turkey, where she decided to go.

She insists that she chose Turkey because of the connection she had with Beylerbeyi’s head coach and the club’s technical director via video calls during their discussions.

“Well, this is something that we have been planning for quite some time, actually for years with my agency,” Morifi told FARPost.

“We have been planning to move to Europe. In the past couple of months, we had a couple of offers across Europe [France, Mexico and Turkey].

Morifi continued: “So, we had to decide where we want to go. But the reason why I came to Turkey was because of the connection I had with the technical team because they made time to arrange video calls with me, engage with me and also tell me more about the club and what it is that the club wants to achieve.

“I then decided that I should come to this side because of the connection and the relationship I had with the coach and the technical director.”

HOW CHUENE MORIFI IS SETTLING IN TURKEY

Morifi went on to state that she’s settling in very well in Turkey and the club welcomed her with open arms.

She further noted that her training sessions have been phenomenal and adapting well to their environment.

“I have been settling in well. People here are very welcoming. It’s a very warm place. It’s just that now is summer so it’s quite hot,” she added.

“So, I have been welcomed very well by the club. My teammates have been kind to me. The training sessions that we had so far have been good.”
