Elias Mokwana set to fly to Tunisia to complete Esperance move
Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana is scheduled to fly to Tunisia today to finalise his transfer to Esperance Sportive de Tunis.
The 24-year-old has agreed to a three-year deal with the Tunisian giants after his impressive run that earned him a place in Bafana. Mokwana’s move to Esperance marks a significant step up in his career, having made his topflight debut just two years ago.
His consistent performances for Sekhukhune United, where he contributed six goals and seven assists in 65 appearances, attracted the attention of several clubs, but it was Esperance who ultimately secured his signature.
The winger is expected to undergo a medical examination upon arrival in Tunisia before officially joining his new club ahead of the upcoming season. This transfer is seen as a major coup for Esperance, who beat out competition from several DStv Premiership clubs to land the promising South African talent.
ESPERANCE BEAT KAIZER CHIEFS TO MOKWANA’S SIGNATURE
The Tunisian giants beat Kaizer Chiefs to the signature of the speedy winger. Mokwana was a top target for Nasreddine Nabi’s Chiefs.
However, his club favoured the terms offered by the North African giants. The move means the man nicknamed Kiddeo will play CAF Champions League football next season. Bafana coach Hugo Broos will follow his progress with keen interest.
Mokwana made his Bafana debut in the international friendliest played in March. He also featured in the two FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe last month.
