What ex-teammate Daniels thinks of Chiefs new signing Rushwin Dortley

Experienced defender Clayton Daniels has offered his thoughts on his former teammate Rushwin Dortley ahead of his switch to Kaizer Chiefs.

The two know each other very well, having played together at Cape Town Spurs for the past two seasons both in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and top-flight. Daniels parted ways with the Spurs in March 2024.

In some matches, the defensive duo was paired together in the heart of defence. That’s if Dortley was not deployed as a left-back on the day.

Last week, FARPost first reported that Amakhosi had acquired the services of the talented versatile defender ahead of the new season.

Then on Monday, the Urban Warriors posted a video of Dortley on their socials as he bid farewell to the entire CT Spurs team.

Daniels praised Dortley’s quality and personality, predicting a bright future for the player. He even went as far as saying Dortley has the potential to captain a club one day.

“With Rushwin, I’ve heard many discussions with him a lot of times. You know, boys of today need to learn many things in football as quickly as possible,” said Daniels during the interview with FARPost.

“A player like Rushwin went to [2024] COSAFA Cup and did really well in the tournament. He has made a big step in his career [moving to Kaizer Chiefs], he has to keep going and never lose focus, I don’t want that for Rushwin.

“He is a disciplined boy, he is a hard worker and I’m sure he is one for the future. For sure, he will be a captain of some team one day, because I believe he’s got the quality in him.

“He just needs to stay focused when challenges come. When challenges come, some young players don’t know how to handle it.”
