AmaZulu FC appoint new goalkeeper coach after Sandilands’ exit

AmaZulu FC have appointed a new goalkeeper coach following the exit of Wayne Sandilands who left the club earlier this month.

Sandilands joined Fadlu Davids’ technical team at Simba SC in Tanzania, ending his one-year stint with the KwaZulu-Natal club.

Usuthu have subsequently brought in Aubrey Vilakazi, previously the goalkeeper coach for the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team. AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu revealed that Vilakazi was recommended by head coach Pablo Franco Martin.

Vilakazi was officially introduced on Monday, coinciding with the announcement of the club’s new sponsors.

FARPost understands that Vilakazi had attracted interest from Marumo Gallants before his promotion to the senior team.

“He’s young, he’s fine, and he’s a product of our development,” said Zungu. “Not so long ago, he was a goalkeeper coach in our evelopment ranks, he’s done a fine job and we’re confident that he will do even a finer job here in the first team.

“So, let’s congratulate him and wish him all the best going forward.”

AmaZulu also welcomed new signings on Monday: Kwanda Mngonyama, Luvuyo Phewa, Etiosa Ighodaro, Boniface Haba, Senzo Ndlovu, Leonardo Roy, and Thato Matli.

Moreover, Matli and Roy will be sent out on loan ahead of the new campaign.

“The squad we had last season was the best in the PSL. In my opinion, they were ranked in the top, and of course, the season didn’t go the way we expected it to,” said Zungu.

“The transfer window is closing in September, and we still have time to add more. We will keep on searching until the coach is satisfied.”

Zungu added that they were not done signing new players, saying the indication of that would only come from coach Pablo Martin.
